The Guardian launches Gamesblog

The UK newspaper, the Guardian, has launched ‘Gamesblog’, an
online collection of news, opinions, and reviews in the (at least
visual) form of a ‘blog’, or internet journal.
The newspaper it self, which is seen as somewhat obsessed with blogs,
in print edition already publishes more games content then any other
paper we have seen — with content in their ‘Online’ supplement on
Thursdays, and in the pocket-size entertainment magazine on Saturdays.

The openly leftist views of the Guardian are already shining through,
with an article actually entitled ‘Where is the left?’. Another ‘Daily
Mail loses’ talks about the difference in opinion between the Daily
Mail and some of its readers over violent computer games, with the DM
doing the normal tabloid overreaction when the game Manhunt was blamed
for a murder last week, but, as expressed on their forums, readers feel
banning violent games isn’t the answer.

The introduction blog states, “We hope things will be a little
different around here. Don’t expect lengthy, geeky reviews of games
you’ll not be able to buy for months - we’ll only review games you can
go out and get now or in the next few days. And don’t expect us to
preach - or, at least, if we do you can tell us straight away. This is
a weblog, which means you can cut in any time and tell us exactly where
you think we’re going wrong or even - gasp - getting it right.”
