NEWS: Hack-Proof PS3 and Price Drop on the Way?

according to an anonymous insider reported at EverythingHQ Sony are currently working on a hack-proof PS3 as a countermeasure to the recent increase in piracy affecting the console. The anonymous insider is quoted as saying “Sony are already deep into plans of developing a hack-proof PS3 system. This is mainly due to the recent leaks of Killzone 3 which has worried Sony of their console becoming a mainstream threat to piracy.”

It is reported that the new model PS3 will retain the current slim design, sport a 300GB hard drive and a new anti hack system which Sony hope will put a stop to the current threats of piracy which has seen a number of their top titles available to download off of numerous torrent sites. The price for this new model is reported to be £186.99 or €221.

It is believed that current PS3 stock will also see a price cut as it would make sense for Sony to clear out any old stock and replace it with the new hack proof console.

While this is all rumour atm and there is no release date set it is highly probable that we will see a hack proof console in the near future. It’s Sony’s best way to combat the threat of piracy and not end up in a situation such as that which faces Microsoftwhere it is routine for each new Xbox 360 title to be available on torrent sites before the offical launch date.

With a March 22 release day set for the PC version of Crysis 2 many may have been surprised to discover that the actual release date came a lot earlier for anyone wishing to pirate the game. Over the past weekend the game appeared on a number of torrent sites and over the past few days various video upload sites such as youtube ahve been awash in gameplay footage.

While games appearing on torrent sites early is not a new occurrence the near two month early release is. Developers Crytek have called the leaked version an incomplete build but it would seem that the entire single player campaign is available.

CEO and President of Crytek Cevat Yerli earlier today released a statement regarding the leak:

As you all have heard by now, an early, incomplete build of Crysis 2 has been leaked online. While we are deeply disappointed by these events, we are all completely overwhelmed by the support we have received from you, our community.

Despite this unfortunate incident, we can assure you that PC gaming is very important to us and will always be important to Crytek in the future. We are all still focused on delivering a great gaming experience to our true and honest fans. I hope you will enjoy Crysis 2 on PC, as we think it is our best PC game yet!

We appreciate all of your continued support, and look forward to playing online with you soon!

Thank you,
Cevat Yerli
