The release last Friday of the Xbox One should have been a happy occasion for the first adapters of the new generation of console gamers but launch day buyers reported a serious hardware issue. Many gamers are reporting that the disc drive in some consoles will not read discs and instead emit a grinding noise when a disc is inserted.
With over one million consoles sold since last Friday it’s hard to know just how many people the issue affects. Microsoft have not yet stated just what percentage of consoles are affected but have released a statement regarding the issue.
“The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers. We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers. Customers have the option for us to send a replacement console right away without waiting until they have returned their old one. This means a customer only has to wait a matter of days, rather than weeks to get back up and running.”
