NEWS: GAME Staff Stage Sit Ins

March 27, 2012 by Craig J Gallagher

Following yesterdays sudden closure of all GAME stores in Ireland, staff have launched a sit in protest over redundancy pay.

Staff are staging the protests due to the lack of notice given regarding the redundancies. Staff believe that they should have received 30 days notice of redundancy and with the news that GAME Group administrators have told employees that while they will be paid their wages for March there will nothing else forthcoming.

Staff who have taken issue with the lack of redundancy have been told to claim official state redundancy from the government but this would only be a small percentage of what some are owned.

It’s not just employees who are outraged by the sudden closure. Customers too have been up in arms over the sudden and unexpected closures given the lack of notice. Many have gift cards which they were unable to use and are now useless to them. One customer spoke of how he “traded in a number of games over the weekend as GAME were offering better than normal trade in prices” as he planned to stop in this week and use the credit to “pick up a Vita”.

It’s a sad day for gamers in Ireland as the only true specialist gaming store has now closed up shop and while the administrators believe that a sale of the company is achievable very few will be holding their breath in anticipation of such an announcement.

BioWare have announced that their upcoming Mass Effect 3 patch will fix the issues regarding the importing of Mass Effect 2 saves into the game. As of yet there is no date set for the patch to be releasesed and considering the news that BioWare are creating a patch to address fan issues regarding the ending this may be one patch that we may have to wait on awhile.

BioWare’s social community manager, Chris Priestly had this to say regarding the release date “Until we know that the patch has passed certification testing, I don’t want to give even a rough idea of the date, to prevent disappointment should it need further testing.”
